SEATTLE – Seattle University men's basketball will host eight games at Climate Pledge Arena as part of a 19-game home slate, Head Coach Jim Hayford announced Thursday along with the reveal of the entire 2021-22 schedule and the on sale of season ticket packages.
"Our players and staff could not be more excited be in the brand new Climate Pledge Arena and call it our home court," Hayford said. "The arena is awesome, words do not do it justice. I can't wait for our fans to be able to come back out, experience all that the arena has to offer and watch the guys play."
Seattle U opens the season on campus in the Redhawk Center on Nov. 10 against Alcorn State before debuting as the first basketball game to take place in Climate Pledge Arena on Nov. 14. The game against Idaho State will serve as the culminating event of a festive Homecoming week at Seattle U.
"We are thrilled to host the Seattle University Men's Basketball team at Climate Pledge Arena for eight of their home games this upcoming season," said Steve Mattson, Climate Pledge Arena's General Manager. "We've seen the excitement for college basketball in this market, including Battle in Seattle this December and with the NCAA awarding us with 2023 and 2025 Basketball Championship events. Seattle University games will be no exception and look forward to welcoming them to Climate Pledge Arena."
The Redhawks will also call Climate Pledge Arena home on Nov. 22 against Arkansas Pine Bluff, Dec. 1 against McNeese State, Dec. 5 against VMI, Dec. 12 against UC San Diego, Jan. 12 against Utah Valley, Jan. 26 against Stephen F. Austin and Feb. 10 against UTRGV.
Additional non-conference home games to be contested at the Redhawk Center include Morgan State on Nov. 18, Pacific Lutheran on Nov. 23, St. Thomas on Nov. 27 and Northwest on Dec. 22.
"Last year was very difficult for everyone due to COVID protocols so having the Seattle U faithful back in person to cheer us on is going to be a real thrill," said Hayford. "This is a schedule that will test us with some strong opponents and allow our young team to develop and gel for WAC play."
The Redhawks will don road uniforms just three times in non-conference play, traveling to face Washington State in Pullman on Nov. 12, UNLV in Las Vegas on Dec. 8 and the University of Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena on Dec. 18.
Western Athletic Conference play features an 18-game slate. The Redhawks will play a home-and-home series against NM State, California Baptist, Utah Valley, Dixie State, Chicago State and UTRGV. They will also travel to face Abilene Christian, Tarleton State and Grand Canyon, while hosting Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State to Seattle.
