CHARLOTTE – Seattle University men's soccer led for much of the match, but eventually fell, 3-2, at Charlotte Thursday. Josh Castrillon and Noe Meza scored for the Redhawks in the non-conference contest at Transamerica Stadium.
After a slow start to the game, SU earned a corner kick in the 15th minute. The ball found the foot of Castrillon, who struck for a goal and a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of the senior's career, spanning 29 matches as a Redhawk. Akili Kasim posted two saves as Seattle U entered halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
Charlotte pressured early in the second half, but Kasim and the Redhawk backline held up. In the 75th minute, Levonte Johnson set up a Meza goal to make it 2-0.
However, the hosts attacked from there, answering almost immediately after Meza's goal, and then tying the game and taking the lead in a nine-minute span.
Kasim finished with seven saves in the match.
The Redhawks (2-1-0) head to No. 24 Duke for the second half of their East Coast road trip. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. Pacific on Monday, Sept. 6.
