NORCO, Calif. – Seattle University women's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision at California Baptist on Saturday afternoon. Jessica Berlin logged three saves in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) opener at Silverlakes Soccer Complex.
"At the end of the day, I just don't think we showed up with the intensity to win a conference game," said SU Coach Julie Woodward. "While a majority of our play was fairly decent, we needed a little bit more urgency. CBU played well and challenged us throughout most of the game. Gabe Jillings and Michele Adam both played very well for us today."
CBU looked to establish a physical presence in the match, earning 18 foul calls on the day. Neither team gained much traction offensively in the first half, as the defenses controlled play for much of the opening frame. The hosts got on the board in the 38th minute for a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, SU earned a corner kick and put five shots up, but the Lancers answered each test. Jessica Berlin finished with three saves in net for the Redhawks.
The Redhawks continue their three-game road swing with games at New Mexico State and Grand Canyon next weekend.
