SEATTLE  – The Seattle U Redhawks dropped their home opener 26-28, 23-25, 18-25 to the Chicago State Cougars Thursday night, falling to 3-9 on the season and 0-1 in WAC play. Seattle U came just a few inches from wins in each of the first two sets, only for late calls and close plays to cost the Redhawks.

Amaris Carter had her third straight match with double-digit kills, recording 11 to pace the Redhawks. Darian Goins and Ezgi Ozkan each had double-digit assists, with 12 and 14, respectively. Erin Goya came just one dig away from matching her career high, recording 14, while Katlyn Sipes had 13.

In the first set, the Redhawks stormed back from down 20-16 and had a close call on match point cost them, making it 25-25. Chicago State would go on a 4-1 run starting with that point to take the set.

Set two saw a similar rally for the Redhawks, this time putting together a 4-0 run to take a 23-22 lead on the back of three Eve Kerschenbaum kills. Chicago State seized back the momentum, however, scoring three straight to take a 2-0 lead before winning set three to end the match.

NOTES
  • In her last three matches, Carter has 54 kills.
  • Sipes has double-digit digs in four consecutive matches.
  • Goins had another kill, giving her ten kills and no errors across the last five matches.
