SEATTLE – Seattle University men's soccer pushed No. 3 Washington to overtime on Monday night, but the Huskies escaped with a 2-1 victory in the WAC/101 Club Cup. Declan McGlynn scored for the Redhawks in front of 1,377 fans at Championship Field.

"It was a tough loss," said SU Coach Pete Fewing. "I'm proud of our effort. That was our best game of the season and we take the No. 3 team in the nation to overtime and take our chances. It was a great crowd and I want to thank the Seattle U students who came out and made it a great night for Seattle soccer."

The first half floated back and forth, with each side taking turns in control of the match. SU looked to work over the top of the UW back line, while the visitors tried the midfield. Both defenses got the better of the opposition in the first 45 minutes, as the match was level at zero at the half.

The Huskies struck first, heading in a goal in the 51st minute for a 1-0 advantage. Seattle U responded from there, beginning to swing the momentum back in its favor as the frame continued. Levonte Johnson made several dashes down the right side to test the UW back line and then he hit the crossbar on a line drive shot. In the 73rd minute, Johnson carried the ball down the right flank again and crossed to Alex Acton-Petronotis, who kept the ball moving to McGlynn, who finished with precision from eight yards out to level the match.

Both sides searched for a go-ahead goal late in regulation, but 90 minutes weren't enough to decide the outcome. In OT, the visitors hit the crossbar and SU had its looks. In the 99th minute, Washington counter-attacked and scored to claim the WAC/101 Club Cup.

UW held a slim 14-13 edge in shots and a 6-4 margin in corner kicks.

SU opens Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday, as it travels to Grand Canyon. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Phoenix.
