ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Seattle U Redhawks split their doubleheader Friday, never trailing against UC San Diego in a 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 win before host New Mexico defeated the Redhawks 14-25, 21-25, 25-22, 23-25. Seattle U gave New Mexico its first lost set of the season in that match.
Eve Kerschenbaum passed Katarina Marinkovic for eighth in Seattle U history in kills today, recording 687th kill of her career. Sierra Bartley had another impressive match, following up a ten-kill match against UC San Diego with a 16-kill performance against New Mexico that set a new career high.
GAME ONE
The Redhawks put together a dominating performance from start to finish in the 3-0 win over UC San Diego. Seattle U never trailed in the match, scoring first in every set, including a 6-0 start to set one.
Late runs by UC San Diego were stomped down quickly in each set: Lauren McCabe had the final four points to secure the first set, while Sierra Bartley and Julia Queiroz combined for eight kills, no errors, and the set-winning block in set two. The match would end with Amaris Carter picking up two kills.
GAME TWO
After taking set three, the Redhawks nearly sent the match to a winner-take-all set, taking a 23-20 lead before a final new Mexico run ended the match. Carter had a particularly impressive set, putting together five straight points at one point, with four kills and a solo block as part of her eight-kill match.
Seattle U will play just one more game this weekend, coming tomorrow against Southeastern Louisiana at 9:00 am PT.
