POCATELLO, Idaho – A five-set nail-biter went against the Seattle U Redhawks in the season opener, with the Redhawks falling 18-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 8-15 to the Idaho State Bengals. Sam Hayward and Eve Kerschenbaum each had ten-kill nights for Seattle U, while Darian Goins had a career-high 27 assists.
 
In addition to the ten kills, Hayward record a team-high 17 digs, giving her a double-double. Darian Goins had 27 digs, more than doubling her previous career high of ten. Erin Goya had five service aces and no errors in her first collegiate action, along with seven digs. Katlyn Sipes had an impressive collegiate debut as well, with 14 digs.
 
The Redhawks opening weekend continues tomorrow with two matches. Seattle U takes on UC Irvine at 9:00 am PT, then faces off with UTEP at 1:00 pm PT to end the three-match weekend.

  • Kerschenbaum had four of her ten kills in set two, making just one error.
  • Goins had a previous career high of ten assists in a match. She had 11 assists in set two alone.
  • Hayward had the first double-double of her Seattle U career.
  • Sophia Bertotti Metoyer led the team with five blocks, a new career high.
