SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Seattle University women's soccer tied, 2-2 in double overtime, at No. 10 Santa Clara on Thursday night. Leahi Manthei scored and Jessica Berlin tallied eight saves as the Redhawks played to a draw with the defending national champions at Stevens Stadium.

The Broncos jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the second minute. SU settled in after that, though, suppressing the Santa Clara attack. Offensively, Sydney Carr put two shots on goal to spark the Redhawk front line. The teams entered halftime with a one-goal margin.

SU leveled the match in the 63rd minute, as Manthei hustled to be in position to convert a rebound. Sydney Carr pressured the Bronco defense and an errant pass went to Carr, who fired a shot that was stopped by the Santa Clara keeper, but bounced free to a sprinting Manthei who slotted home the equalizer for her second goal of the season.

Just a few minutes later, Carr's work set up another Redhawk goal. The senior drove down the right side and fired a shot that went off the foot of a Bronco defender and got past the goalkeeper for a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute.

The hosts found a tying score in the 76th minute, forcing overtime. Both teams created opportunities in the extra sessions and Berlin made several stellar plays to keep the game going, as the sides settled for a tie.

Seattle U heads to San Diego to wrap its four-game road trip on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
