SEATTLE – Bolstering support of student athletes wellness and forming a new partnership with the Kinesiology department, Seattle University Athletics has announced new hirings, promotions and partnerships in the Strength, Speed & Conditioning and Athletic Training areas. Lindsey Winter headlines the group as the Head Strength, Speed and Conditioning Coach, Claire Sporer is the Strength, Speed, and Conditioning Assistant Coach, Casey Watkins is the Strength, Speed and Conditioning Coach/Kinesiology faculty, and Theresa Swanson is the Athletic Trainer/Kinesiology faculty.

Winter has been the Assistant Sports Performance Coach at Oregon State since 2018. She worked at Evansville and Abilene Christian after interning at the University of Washington. Winter played softball at Boise State, serving as team captain in her senior year.

"I am thrilled to be joining Redhawk athletics," said Winter. "I grew up in the Seattle area and I am excited to be returning home. I would like to thank my husband, family and close colleagues that have supported me through this process. Thank you to Director of Athletics Shaney Fink, Associate Athletic Director Eric Guerra, Head Basketball Coach Jim Hayford and the rest of the search committee for entrusting me to aid in the development of the student athletes at Seattle University. I look forward to living out the goal of building durable and robust student athletes that will contend for championships in the WAC and throughout Division I athletics."

"We are thrilled to have Lindsey to lead our strength, speed and conditioning program," said Eric Guerra, Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Athlete Services. "Lindsey is a tireless competitor and outstanding professional. She brings student-centered approach that aligns with our mission and dedication to caring for the whole person."

Sporer earned her Master's degree in Applied Human Development and Coaching from Boston University earlier this year. She was the Strength and Conditioning Graduate Assistant at BU for the last two years.

"Our growing partnership with Kinesiology Department is also an exciting opportunity," Guerra continued. "We look forward to welcoming Casey and Theresa. Both will bring a wealth of knowledge to our programs and students."

Watkins has been a Human Performance Clinician at the Sports Performance Clinic, Sports Performance Research Institute New Zealand, Auckland University of Technology since 2018. Prior to that, Watkins worked as a Strength & Conditioning Coach at a variety of levels, including a stint at Cal State Fullerton.

"I'm super excited to join the team at Seattle University," said Watkins. "I hope to facilitate academic, personal and movement skill development in students and athletes to help them be their best self."

Swanson will be coordinating clinical rotations for Kinesiology's undergrad program and assigned to track & field and women's swimming as sport assignments. She will have additional admin duties of coordinating doctor rotations and scheduling. Swanson has been a clinician for over 10 years with experience working at both the Division I and high school levels.

"I'm excited to get back in the training room and thankful to be in a position to help mentor students who are building the framework for their future," Swanson said.

In the Athletic Training office, Jimmy Jadlos and Kelsey LaMont have been promoted to full-time positions. Jadlos earned his Master's degree from Seattle U this summer, while LaMont joined the staff on a part-time basis in 2020.

"Jimmy and Kelsey have already done a tremendous job caring for our students," said Guerra. "We are very grateful to have them join the sports medicine team on a full-time basis."

Javad Bakhshingjad will join the Strength, Speed & Conditioning staff as a graduate assistant. He earned a Bachelor's degree at Washington State, interning in the Cougars' Strength and Conditioning room.

Two new fellows will also join the Sports Medicine team this year, including Andre Abadin, DO and Jordan Orr, MD.
