PORTLAND, Ore. – Seattle University women's soccer won, 2-0, at Portland State on Saturday afternoon. Leahi Manthei and Bailey Hall each scored as SU claimed its first win of the fall season at Hillsboro Stadium.
The Redhawks gained control early, maintaining possession and pressuring the PSU defense. In the 17th minute, Manthei scored to give SU a 1-0 advantage, as Michele Adam sent a ball over the backline and Manthei finished.
Madison Waguespack was stellar in goal, making a pair of saves in the first 45 minutes as Seattle U entered the break with a one-goal lead. Lexi Davis came on and finished the shutout with two more stops in the second half.
In the 82nd minute, Hall iced the decision with a goal as SU remained unbeaten in 12 all-time meetings with the Vikings. Off a corner kick, Hailee Rasmussen controlled the ball and dished to Hall, who scored for the 2-0 difference.
The Redhawks held a 18-8 advantage in shots on the day.
SU heads to defending NCAA champion Santa Clara for their next game on Thursday, Aug. 26. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
