DENVER – Sydney Carr of Seattle University women's soccer has been named 2021 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday morning. The senior was also picked for the Preseason All-WAC Team, as voted by WAC coaches.

The WAC has expanded for the upcoming season, moving the conference to two divisions. The Redhawks were voted to finish second in the West Division, according to the coaches' poll. They earned one first-place vote, as Utah Valley was named the favorite, grabbing four first-place nods. Grand Canyon claimed the final first-place vote and ranked third in the poll. California Baptist, NM State, and Dixie State rounded out the rankings.

In the Southwest Division poll, Stephen F. Austin was picked the preseason favorite. Abilene Christian and Lamar tied for second, with UTRGV in fourth. Sam Houston and Chicago State closed out the poll.

The divisions will not cross over in the regular season, as Seattle U will face its West Division foes twice each. The top three teams from each division will qualify for the WAC Tournament, to be held at Abilene Christian in November.

Carr, an Orange, Calif., native, led the nation in scoring in the spring. She recorded 16 goals and six assists across 17 matches in her debut season as a Redhawk. Carr tallied three hat tricks, including a four-goal, two-assist performance against Chicago State that set SU's single-game points (10) record.

Carr was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-WAC in the spring. She also claimed United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region First Team accolades.

Seattle U opens its regular season on Thursday, Aug. 19, at Oregon State.
