KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rip Economou, Riley Grigsby and Matt Vail have all been named to the 2020-21 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, announced Tuesday. The honor recognizes collegiate men's basketball student-athletes who excelled in the classroom and on the court during the past season.
The trio of Seattle U players are all first-time honorees as each was academically a junior in 2020-21. Economou and Grigsby, both Communications majors, were also named to the 2020-21 Western Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. Vail is pursuing a Finance degree at Seattle U.
This marks the third consecutive year that multiple Redhawks have been named to the NABC Honors Court. Two players were honored in 2018-19 folloowed by a program -record four honorees in 2019-20.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:
1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2020-21 academic year.
3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
4. Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.
