DENVER – Ally Choate of Seattle University softball has been named a 2021 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Stan Bates Award winner. Named in honor of former WAC Commissioner Stan Bates, the annual award is given to the WAC's top male and female scholar-athletes and recognizes athletic, academic and community accomplishments. The award includes a $3,000 postgraduate scholarship.
Choate is the first Redhawk to take home the Stan Bates Award. The honor continues a string of accolades for the Yelm, Washington, native.
Choate wrapped a fantastic four-year career at Seattle U and graduated last month. She was named 2021 Seattle U Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Choate hit a team-high .363 with 58 hits in 50 games, playing a vital role in softball's run to the NCAA Tournament. She graduated with a 3.73 cumulative GPA while majoring in humanities for teaching with minors in mathematics and social welfare. Choate earned her third straight First Team All-WAC honor and was picked NFCA Third Team All-Region. She was a member of SAAC, serving as treasurer in 2020-21, and claimed her fourth Academic All-WAC selection. Choate was also voted 2020 Seattle U Homecoming Queen.
In her softball career, she started 176 of 177 games. Her 212 hits and 121 runs are both second-most in program history. The rightfielder helped SU win its first-ever WAC regular-season and tournament titles in 2019 and then followed it up with another WAC Tournament crown in 2021.
