The Seattle U baseball program began the 2021 baseball season with six former members among the professional ranks. During the course of the summer, #ProRedhawk Notes will provide a bi-weekly update of each player.
Tarik Skubal – P, Detroit Tigers (MLB)
Season Stats: 5-8, 4.36 ERA, 88.2 IP, 105 SO, 1.38 WHIP
Skubal has been solid in his last seven appearances, posting a 3-1 record with 48 strikeouts and 4.08 ERA in 39.2 innings. He began the month of July by striking out six in a five-inning victory over the Chicago White Sox. Despite a five strikeout day, the left-hander then fell to the Minnesota Twins as he surrendered five runs, three earned, on six hits.
Eric Yardley – P, Nashville Sound (AAA) – Milwaukee Brewers
Season Stats: 0-0, 6.75 ERA, 18.2 IP, 5 SO, 1.82 WHIP
Since June 28, Yardley made six relief appearances for the Sound tossing 5.1 innings with five strikeouts and allowed two runs on three hits. Yardley ended last week by holding opponents scoreless in his last three appearances, as he tossed one-inning each.
Janson Junk – P, Somerset Patriots (AA) – New York Yankees
Season Stats: 4-1, 1 SV, 1.08 ERA, 50.0 IP, 54 SO, 0.82 WHIP
Junk picked his fourth win of the season, matching a single-season mark he set in 2019. The right-hander made a three-inning relief bid with two strikeouts, as he and starter JP Sears combined for a seven-inning shutout. Junk earned a start last week, but garnered a no-decision after allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts.
Zach Wolf – P, Beloit Snappers (High-A) – Miami Marlins
Season Stats: 1-2, 5.87 ERA, 23.0 IP, 25 SO, 1.35 WHIP
Wolf announced his retirement from professional baseball on July 6. He played part of three seasons, appearing in 67 games, after being selected 537th-overall by Miami Marlins in 2018 MLB Draft. During his minor league career, Wolf posted a 7-5 record with 20 saves while tossing 88.2 innings.
Jake Prizina – P, Aberdeen IronBirds (High-A) – Baltimore Orioles
Season Stats: 3-1, 2.82 ERA, 38.1 IP, 34 SO, 1.02 WHIP
A 6-5 decision last Friday, allowed Prizina to picked up his first victory since being promoted to Aberdeen. The left-hander put together a quality outing as he went six innings with three strikeouts. In the start before that, he tossed 4.1-scoreless innings and struck out three.
Brandon Jenkins – P, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (Low-A) – Chicago White Sox
Season Stats: 0-0, 1.53 ERA, 17.2 IP, 25 SO, 1.53 WHIP
Jenkins put together a solid outing as he struck out five and surrendered two hits in a 2.1-inning relief stint last week.
