SEATTLE – Seattle University women's basketball has announced the addition of two transfers for the 2021-22 season. Jadynn Alexander and Barbara Rangel will join the Redhawks as graduate transfers from the University of Hawai'i.
Coach Suzy Barcomb begins her sixth season at SU this year. She guided the Redhawks to the 2018 WAC Tournament title, the first in program history.
"I'm excited to have the experience these two recruits will bring to our program," said Barcomb. "I think the fact the already have a good connection as former teammates will allow each to bring the strengths to our program."
Alexander was Hawai'i's second-leading scorer last season, putting up 10.4 points and playing a team-leading 33.3 minutes per game. She was chosen Honorable Mention All-Big West. Her 27 made three-pointers were second-most on the team. Alexander was also picked Big West Conference All-Defensive Team in each of the last two seasons. The 5-10 native of Monroe, Wash., will have one year of eligibility remaining at SU.
"Jadynn is very athletic with slashing abilities," said Barcomb. "She has tremendous energy on the floor and also adds another long and lengthy player to our roster that will have us be able to play multiple line-ups. I love how she competes and with all of her court experience it should bode very well for our team."
Rangel is a 6-2 center from Ventura, Calif. She appeared in 28 games across two seasons with the Warriors. Rangel played two years at Moorpark College, alongside current Redhawk Bree Calhoun. At Ventura High, Rangel was named first team all-state as a senior and earned two conference MVP honors. She will also have one year of eligibility remaining at Seattle U.
"Barb will give us some good size and toughness on the inside and has a completely different game than our other post players," said Barcomb. "This should give use some good versatility to go up against our opponents. Her solid work ethic and maturity are outstanding and gives us another leadership voice."
