SEATTLE - Seattle University softball hosted its annual team banquet on Wednesday night, celebrating its 2021 WAC Tournament title and the terrific senior class.

Coach Geoff Hirai oversaw the online event, as the Redhawks looked back on a unique season that featured many challenges never before seen in college athletics. SU rallied together to win every WAC series and then sweep the WAC Tournament at Logan Field. It returned to the University of Washington for its second straight NCAA Tournament Regional appearance, where the Redhawks beat Portland State for the second Division I tournament win in program history.

On Wednesday, the coaching staff and senior class spoke about their experiences over the last five years before team awards were presented. Alyson Matriotti won Defensive Player of the Year, Brooke Milder won Most Improved, and Stefanie Madrigal earned Freshman of the Year honors. 2019 SU graduate Emma Mitchell joined the Zoom to present the 2021 Emma Mitchell Most Inspirational Award to Mekenzie Madokoro. Bailey Thompson was voted Team MVP and Stephanie Merwin and Cherise Silvan split the Hard Hat Award.

Seattle U won 30 games in 2021 and will return a strong pitching staff led by Madrigal, a 2021 First Team All-WAC performer, and two-time WAC Tournament MVP Carley Nance, along with All-WAC outfielder Olivia Viggiano.
