Seattle - Seattle U track and field will compete in its final event before the 2021 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday in Seattle at the UW Ken Shannon Invitational on the Husky Outdoor Track. Following along with covid-related health and safety protocols the event will be closed to spectators.

Field events will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw followed by the track events, starting at 2:20 p.m. with the women's 4x100m relays. The Redhawks will be competing against athletes from Saint Martin, Seattle Pacific, Central Washington, Western Washington and the hosts Washington.

The holder of the ninth all-time indoor 800m time and a two time academic All-WAC winner, Devin Hasty spent four years as a Redhawk. The Phoenix, Ariz., native has raced in cross country, 1500m and 1600m relays and will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.

Seattle University Athletics recently took the time to meet with Hasty to learn more about his time at Seattle U and what his plans might be for the future.

Q:Why did you choose to attend to Seattle U?

A:I decided to attend Seattle U based on their Jesuit education style and the fact that they were offering me the ability to run in college.

Q:Have you decided what you want to do after graduation?

A:I plan on attending medical school and am currently in the process of applying.

Q:What's the one thing you look forward to the most on meet day?

A:I really enjoy getting the opportunity to compete and test myself, but also being able to see my teammates accomplish some really amazing things.

Q:What is your favorite memory as a Redhawk?

A:My favorite memory as a Redhawk are the yearly preseasons for cross country. These were a great time to welcome new runners, go to camp, and train for races without having to worry about school at the same time. That first month is usually help in securing a good mindset for myself and our team as we start the year.

Q:How has being a student athlete at Seattle U made an impact on you as a person?

A:Being a student athlete at Seattle U has given me the opportunity to learn how to effectively manage my time. I learned really quickly how to manage my time with running and academics. I also had a great opportunity to be a part of a close social unit that really keeps my motivation up and supports me in everything. Without my teammates, doing well in undergrad would have been a lot harder.
