SU Falls in Finale of WAC Cluster

EDINBURG, Texas - Seattle U women's tennis wrapped up its second WAC cluster on Friday when it faced off against Grand Canyon at the Orville Cox Tennis Center in Edinburg, Texas. The Lopes came out hot and didn't let up, winning in a decisive 7-0 sweep.

EDINBURG, Texas - Seattle U women's tennis wrapped up its second WAC cluster on Friday when it faced off against Grand Canyon at the Orville Cox Tennis Center in Edinburg, Texas. The Lopes came out hot and didn't let up, winning in a decisive 7-0 sweep. 

Grand Canyon opened the match by winning the doubles point. Junior Martina Asciuto teamed up with fellow junior Jillian Rasmussen to put together the best doubles performance of the day, falling 4-6 against Taylor Andersen and Joely Lomas. Senior Peggy Rooke and junior Hannah Grossman paired up for a second straight match as they fell 3-6 against Emilia Occhipinti and Autum Prudhomme, while seniors Hannah Gianan and Michelle Bader (3-6) suffered the same result against Natasha Puehse and Jana Weiss. 

In singles play, Gianan (3-6, 2-6) battled against Puehse, while Rooke (2-6, 6-0) faced off against Occhipinti and junior Aranza Alvarez Sanabria (4-6, 1-6) started off strong against opponent Aline Buhr but came up short in the end. Asciuto fell to Lomas in identical sets of 2-6, 2-6, while Rasmussen (2-6, 3-6) fought hard against Prudhomme and Grossman (0-6, 1-6) matched up with Weiss.

The Redhawks' next match will take them to Las Cruces, N.M. for matchups with UTRGV and Tarleton State on Apr. 16 and 17, respectively.
