DENVER, Colo. - Seniors Lucas Cerbelli and Eli Ogilvy as well as freshman Julian Worn are among those honored by the Western Athletic Conference Thursday as the league unveiled its 2021 postseason awards. Ogilvy was named to the Second Team All-WAC singles and doubles team, while Cerbelli pairs with him on the Second Team All-WAC doubles team, and Worn earns All-WAC Honorable Mention.
Ogilvy's highlight of the WAC season came on Mar. 27 when he claimed the final point, in a hard fought 4-3 Redhawk win, against Chicago State's Jakov Suler (6-7, 7-6, 6-1). In doubles play, Cerbelli and Ogilvy dominated in almost all of their WAC matchups. The senior duo went on to win their first three matches and finished the season with the most doubles victories on the entire team with five.
"They bring a lot of experience from their previous institutions, making them a great doubles pairing," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "We tried a lot of doubles combinations at the start of the season with this one looking like it was going to be our best from the very beginning."
Worn also enjoyed success in WAC singles play, claiming two victories over Chicago State's Javier Sanchez (6-0, 6-4) and New Mexico State's Martin Simecek (2-6, 6-2, 6-4).
"Julian is an extremely talented player with great potential," said Hollander. "He has such a calm personality which really helps him prepare for each match as he always seems ready for the start."
Seattle U's next match will be the WAC tournament opener against New Mexico State on May 1 at the NM State Tennis Center in Las Cruces, N.M.
