CLOVIS, Calif. - Seattle U track and field will be back in action on Saturday when they head to Clovis, Calif., to compete in the Fresno State Invitational. The event will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium with the field events starting at 10 a.m., while races on the track begin at 1 p.m.
The Redhawks will be competing against athletes from Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, Fresno Pacific, Nevada, St. Mary's, Sacramento State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara and the hosts Fresno State.
For the last four years, Lance Slichko has been an important part of Seattle U track and cross country. The 2017-2018 Seattle University male freshman of the year, Slichko is seventh all-time in the indoor mile and tenth all-time in the outdoor 1500m and 3000m. The Puyallup, Wash., native is currently a member of the track and field leadership committee and has scored in the indoor mile, DMR and outdoor 1500m at the WAC Championships.
Seattle University Athletics recently took the time to meet with Slichko to learn more about his time at Seattle U and what his plans might be for the future.
Q: Why did you choose Seattle U?
A: I chose SU because of its smaller class sizes, job opportunities it creates within a big market, the dedication from professors to help students and the great track and cross country program I have been able to be a part of.
Q: Have you decided what you want to do after graduation?
A: I will be attending Saint Martin's University to study for my Master's in Civil Engineering & Engineering Management as well as continue to run cross country and track.
Q: What's the one thing you look forward to the most on meet day?
