SEATTLE – Cameron Tyson, member of the 2021 Final Four University of Houston team and Pacific Northwest native, has committed to continuing his basketball career and education at Seattle U, Head Coach Jim Hayford announced Tuesday.

"We are excited to welcome Cam Tyson back to Seattle," said Hayford. "Cam is an elite shooter who will bring maturity and toughness to our team. He is an outstanding young man with tremendous love for life and the game of basketball. He is a great addition to our program."

Originally from Bothell, Wash., the 6-2, 190-pound guard has spent the past two years at Houston, including a redshirt season in 2019-20 per NCAA transfer rules. In 2020-21, Tyson averaged 6.2 points per game and was third on the team with 35 threes as the Cougars reached the Final Four for the first time in 37 years. He had at least one three in 11 games, including hitting 9-of-15 from deep at Tulane on Feb. 28 and 10-of-18 from beyond the arc versus Our Lady of the Lake on Feb. 6, setting a single-game school record.

Tyson spent his freshman collegiate season at University of Idaho in 2018-19 where he broke the school freshman scoring record and finished the season with 432 points. He averaged 13.5 points and connected on 106-of-247 three-pointers (42.9%), breaking the Big Sky Conference record for threes by a freshman. Those 106 threes were also second most in Idaho program history.

At Bothell High School, Tyson finished as the all-time leader scorer in school history. He was an All-KingCo 4A first team selection as a senior in 2017-18, leading the Cougars to an overall record of 21-3 and averaging 26.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

Tyson joins Clancy Bird (6-9 forward, Sydney, Australia/St. Augustine College), Kyree Brown (6-0 guard, Oakland, Calif./City College of San Francisco) Brandt Chatfield (6-10 forward, Orofina, Idaho/Washington State) and Brody Nunn (6-2 guard, Melbourne, Australia/Haileybury College) in Seattle U's 2021 signing class.
