EDINBURG, Texas - Seattle U women's tennis opened its WAC cluster this weekend with a matchup against Chicago State in Edinburg, Texas. The Cougars came out strong in doubles play and took that momentum into singles play, winning three matches to seal the 4-3 victory.
The Redhawks did their best in singles play to come away with the victory. Senior Hannah Gianan (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) earned a hard fought win against Kristina Pukhaeva, while junior Aranza Alvarez Sanabria (6-2, 6-2) dominated in her match against Susana Andres. Junior Alisa Sabotic (3-6, 6-2, 2-6) was the next closest Redhawk to victory as she pushed Katarina Drazic to a third set, while fellow junior Hannah Grossman (6-0, 2-6, 3-6) started the match off strong against opponent Katarina Dukic but fell short and senior Peggy Rooke (3-6, 4-6) battled against Sofiya Sedovich. Rounding out the singles matches was junior Martina Asciuto who was awarded the victory by default on court six.

Grossman and Rooke (6-7 (5-7)) paired up for a close match against Sedovich and Andres, while Gianan teamed up with fellow senior Michelle Bader (2-6) against Pukhaeva and Drazic. Seattle U will be back in action again on Friday in Edinburg, Texas, as it faces off against Grand Canyon at 2 p.m.
