LAS VEGAS – Seattle University men's soccer fell, 2-0, to No. 16 Grand Canyon in a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament semifinal on Thursday. Akili Kasim made four saves as SU saw its spring season end at Johann Memorial Field.

The Redhawks, facing the unbeaten Lopes, used their defense early, keeping their foes away from Kasim through 20 minutes. GCU earned a corner kick in the 23rd minute and converted, as a shot was tapped in from point-blank range for a 1-0 advantage.

SU was dealt a tough hand in the 25th minute, collecting a red card to go down a man the rest of the day. It performed well as the half continued, including a terrific header attempt by Alex Acton-Petronotis, but the Lope defense stood tall to keep its lead through 45 minutes.

In the second half, GCU controlled possession with its man advantage, pressuring the Redhawk backline and forcing SU to try for counter-attacks to manufacture offense. Grand Canyon found an insurance goal in the 80th to put the match away.

Seattle U concludes its spring season with a 6-4-1 record. It will return numerous starters for the fall campaign.
