BANDON, Ore. - Seattle U men's golf wrapped up their first of two tournaments in Oregon this month when they finished 10th out of 14 teams at the Bandon Dunes Invitational on Tuesday. San Francisco took home the team title with a stroke total of 16-under, while Fresno State's Tommy Stephenson finished in first place with a shot total of 8-under. The Redhawks posted a team score of 30-over 882, with their best team round of 283 coming on Tuesday. The three-day event took place at the Bandon Dunes Resort in Bandon, Ore., on the 6,752 yard course with a par of 71.
Leading the way for Seattle U were juniors Jack Rahon and Federico Gutierrez. After a slow start in round one, Rahon steadily moved up the leader board as he improved on each round and eventually finished tied for 23rd at 5-over 218 (76-74-68). Gutierrez (71-78-69) was one of four other golfers that also tied for 23rd as he put together strong performances in rounds one and three. Senior Gabe Spach was just three strokes behind them finishing with scores of 71-77-73. Rounding out the participants for Seattle U's team score were freshman Blake Kukula and junior Nathan Cogswell who finished with three-round totals of 227 (73-79-75) and 228 (76-79-73). Competing as an individual was sophomore Will Koepke (72-79-77) who finished with the same three-round total as Cogswell.
The Redhawks look forward to making another trip to Oregon when they head to Eugene to compete in the Oregon Duck Invitational at Eugene Country Club from Mar. 22-23.
