PHOENIX, Ariz - Seattle U men's tennis finished its opening weekend of WAC play on Saturday as it took on Chicago State at the GCU Tennis Center in Phoenix, Ariz. The Redhawks started the matchup slow as they dropped the doubles point but were able to clinch the victory after winning four of the six in singles play for a 4-3 final score.

Clinching the victory for Seattle U was senior Eli Ogilvy (6-7, 7-6, 6-1) as he defeated Jakov Suler in the final match of the day on court one. Fellow senior Lucas Cerbelli (6-1, 6-2) earned the first singles win of the day as he dominated against Jesus Perez, while freshman Julian Worn (6-0, 6-4) earned his fifth win of the season over Javier Sanchez. The final singles victory came from sophomore Lars Schmassmann (4-6, 7-5, 6-2) as he defeated Max Sandoval in a close three set matchup. Senior Emilio Monroy (4-6, 6-2, 1-6) and freshman Mats Krause (5-7, 0-6) round out the singles matches as they fell to Jakub Zamorski and Pedro Alvarez respectively.

In doubles play, Ogilvy and Cerbelli (7-5) claimed their third straight victory as they defeated Suler and Perez but the Redhawks were unable to win in either of the other matches, dropping the doubles point. Monroy and junior Billy Givens-Jensen (3-6) fell to Zamorski and Sandoval, while Krause and Worn (5-7) dropped their match with Sanchez and Alvarez.

"Extremely proud of our team for pulling out the win today," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "It wasn't easy but they all fought as a team and came together when we needed it."

Seattle U will look to continue its hot start in WAC play on Apr. 9 when it matches up with New Mexico State in Edinburg, Texas.
