Seattle U Falls Short at Dixie State

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Seattle U women's tennis competed in its second WAC matchup of the weekend on Sunday when it faced off against Dixie State on the Trailblazer Tennis Courts in St. George, Utah. Dixie State came out hot in the doubles matches and continued that strong play in the singles matches as they clinched a 5-2 victory on its home courts.

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Seattle U women's tennis competed in its second WAC matchup of the weekend on Sunday when it faced off against Dixie State on the Trailblazer Tennis Courts in St. George, Utah. Dixie State came out hot in the doubles matches and continued that strong play in the singles matches as they clinched a 5-2 victory on its home courts. 

The Trailblazers started the day by claiming the doubles point. Seniors Hannah Gianan and Peggy Rooke (3-6) paired up against Krya Harames and Sabrina Longson, while juniors Martina Asciuto and Hannah Grossman (1-6) teamed up against Juliana Honczaruk and Rachel Mellor.

Junior Aranza Alvarez Sanabria (6-2, 6-4) was the best performer for Seattle U on the day as she triumphed in her match against Honczaruk, earning her first singles victory of the season. Also earning her first singles victory of the season was Grossman (6-1, 0-6, 6-0) as she dominated the first and third sets against opponent Sabrina Longson. Rooke (3-6, 2-6) matched up against Alexandra Hildreth, while Gianan (4-6, 4-6) battled against Harames and Asciuto (7-5, 5-7, 7-10) almost pulled out the third singles victory for Seattle U as she pushed Emma Templeman to a tiebreaker point in the third set. Rounding out the singles matches, was Dixie State's Ya-Chi Hsu who was awarded the victory by default on court six.

"I am happy to see our team fight as hard as they did today," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "Even without one of our key players, they tried as hard as they could to make the best out of a difficult situation."

The next time the Redhawks will be in action is when they travel to Edinburg, Texas to matchup with Chicago State and Grand Canyon on Apr. 1-2.
