SEATTLE – Seattle University women's soccer ran away with a 6-1 win over Chicago State Saturday afternoon. Sydney Carr tallied a hat trick for the second straight match and moved into a tie for the national lead in goals with 13 this season in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contest at Championship Field.

SU (8-3-1, 7-1-1 WAC) dominated the first half, playing in its offensive half for the vast majority of the first 45 minutes. In the eighth minute, Natalie Dixon set up on the offensive right and passed ahead to Leahi Manthei, who crossed a low ball into the box. Carr was there and headed the ball in for a 1-0 lead.

In the 17th minute, Chicago State was called for a handball, setting up a penalty kick opportunity. Emily Bunnell stepped forward and beat the Cougars' goalkeeper on her right to make it 2-0.

The visitors looked to set up off a free kick in the 22nd minute, but Ava Benedetti stole the pass and sprinted down the left side. She dished to Carr, who beat three defenders and then finished the play with her second goal of the day.

Late in the half, Mo Nagel was taken down in the box, giving the hosts another PK try. Michele Adam took the ball this time and converted for her first career goal as Seattle U grabbed a commanding 4-0 lead.

Paige Malm took a corner kick in the 53rd minute as SU looked to expand its margin. Her cross went to the far post, where Kate Connelly was there for a one-touch smash into the back of the net. The score was Connelly's first career goal and it gave the Redhawks a 5-0 advantage.

In the 78th minute, Kelsey Crosby got in the way of a CSU pass attempt and the ball wound up at the feet of Bailey Hall. Hall sent a pass ahead to Carr, who beat the defense and then scored from a harsh angle to complete her hat trick.

The visitors found a late goal to get on the board in the 83rd minute.

Carr has three hat tricks and 10 total goals in her last four contests. She is tied with two other players with 13 goals on the season. The junior is tied for second nationally with 28 points through 12 matches.

SU heads to Utah Valley for a key WAC series next weekend. The teams will play twice, starting on Thursday, Mar. 25.
