CORVALLIS, Ore. - Seattle U track and field completed its first outdoor event since Mar. 16, 2019 on Saturday when they traveled to Corvallis, Ore., to participate in the PNW Team Clash, hosted by Oregon State. The Redhawks showed they were ready to return to action as they set 17 new marks on their all time top-10 outdoor list.
"It has been a long time since we got to compete in an outdoor event and we could see that in the smiles on our athletes faces as we were all just happy to be back competing," said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. "Overall it was a great trip and we got to enjoy some great weather. This was a good event for us as we are starting back up and we will be even better prepared for the next one."
Seattle U's highlights of the day came from junior Tricht Jocelyn and freshman Maya McCabe who both posted first-place finishes. Jocelyn, who took home first place in both the 100m and 200m dash with times of 12.24 and 25.45, also now ranks fifth and third, respectively, all time in those categories while McCabe (2:11.77) finished first in the 800m and sits at number two on the all time list.
In the 110m hurdles, sophomores William Sun and Lucas Milne now rank third and fourth all time with times of 16.05 and 16.08. Milne also finished his day with a long jump of 5.99m which was good enough for 10th all time. The last of the track marks came in the relays as the squad of senior Michelle Newblom, sophomore Regie Grady, junior Michaela Moore and Jocelyn rank fifth all time in the 4x100. while the squad of Grady, McCabe, sophomore Ellie Postma and freshman Kaila Ronquilio ranks ninth in the 4x400m.
Freshman Xavier Kelley shined in his field events as he now sits top-10 in two events. Kelley ranks sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.11m and seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.05m. Making their first appearance for the Redhawks were fellow freshman Bryana Rogers and Morgan Young who now both sit in the top-10 in the long jump and triple jump. Finishing with a jump of 5.23m and 11.33m in the long and triple jump, puts Rogers in seventh and third, respectively, while Young's jumps of 5.16m and 11.22m land her in ninth and fifth. Rounding out Seattle U's top-10 marks on the day was freshman Jami Tresselt who set a new PR and moved from sixth to fifth place with a hammer throw of 39.35m.
