SEATTLE – Seattle University women's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to Grand Canyon Saturday afternoon. Leahi Manthei scored in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) match at Championship Field.

Seattle U trailed, 2-0, at halftime and spent much of the second half in search of a goal. It tilted the field in its favor for the majority of the frame and tried 12 shots, but the Lopes held off an SU rally until late in the match. Sydney Carr hustled to keep possession at the end line near the GCU goal and eventually earned a throw-in. The ball was cycled around to Taylor Marks on the right side, where she passed ahead to Manthei. The senior dribbled and shot while sliding, sending a high ball arcing over the head of the Lopes' keeper and into the far side of the net to halve the deficit in the 84th minute.

The Redhawks worked for a tying goal, but the visitors escaped with a one-goal win.

The loss snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak and a six game win streak for SU.

The Redhawks host Chicago State for two WAC games next weekend at Championship Field.
