DENVER – Bree Calhoun and McKenzi Williams of Seattle University women's basketball were recognized on the 2020-21 All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Teams, released Monday morning. Calhoun earned WAC Defensive Player of the Year, WAC All-Newcomer Team, WAC All-Defensive Team, and All-WAC Honorable Mention, while Williams was picked All-WAC Second Team.

Calhoun, a Granada Hills, California, native, made an immediate impact in her first season at SU. In 24 games, she averaged 12.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.0 rebounds, and 3.4 steals per game. Calhoun ranks third nationally with 81 steals and fifth with 141 assists this season. She tallied 18 outings with three or more steals, including seven in the season-opener against Portland on Nov. 25. Calhoun recorded 17 games with at least five assists, dishing out a career-high 10 against UTRGV on Feb. 19. She scored 23 points in a game on two different occasions.

"We knew we had a very special player with Bree," said SU Coach Suzy Barcomb. "We are thrilled with her development in her first year with our program."

Calhoun is the second straight Redhawk to win WAC Defensive Player of the Year, following Kamira Sanders in 2020.

Williams, a native of Auburn, Wash., put together a standout season after missing the end of the 2019-20 campaign due to injury. In 24 starts, she paced SU with 15.4 points per game, good for third in the WAC. Williams made a team-high 32 three-pointers on 34.8 percent accuracy. She also shot 81.3 percent from the foul line, ranking third in the league and making 104 free throws. The junior guard posted 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Williams set the school's Division I program record with 36 points at Idaho on Dec. 21. She earned the Seattle Sports Commission's Female Sports Star of the Year Award as well.

"We're excited for Kenzi to earn All-WAC Second Team," said Barcomb. "She has put in a great deal of time rehabbing and coming back strong. Her level of play has improved over her time with our program."

Seattle U faces NM State in the first round of the WAC Tournament on Wednesday, March 10, at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
