SEATTLE – Seattle University women's basketball fell, 62-46, to undefeated California Baptist on Saturday afternoon. SU honored seniors Leilani Peat and Makenna Schoenhofer before the home finale at the Redhawk Center.
The Redhawks (11-13, 6-8 WAC) have earned the fifth seed in next week's WAC Tournament. They will take on fourth-seeded New Mexico State in the first round of the postseason on Wednesday, March 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. SU and the Aggies split two games in El Paso last month.
On Saturday, the Lancers led, 8-0, early and held a comfortable margin for the majority of the game. Georgia Kehoe and Bree Calhoun scored for the Redhawks, but the deficit ballooned to 18-5 late in the first. McKenzi Williams sank a trey as the visitors led, 20-8, through 10 minutes.
CBU went up by as many as 18 in the second quarter, as threes by Calhoun and Schoenhofer highlighted the SU offense. Williams scored on a late putback to pull the hosts within 39-25 at halftime.
The Redhawks kept competing in the third, trimming the Lancer lead to eight at one point. Williams converted two free throws and Kehoe finished a three-point play before Peat swished a baseline jumper to cap a 7-0 spurt to make it 46-38 at the 2:04 mark. The visitors hit a three to close scoring for an 11-point difference heading into the fourth period.
Williams and Kehoe both scored early in the fourth frame, but CBU eventually pulled away and completed its unbeaten regular season.
Williams posted 17 points and five rebounds. Kehoe compiled nine points and nine boards to go with three steals. Calhoun tallied eight points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
