Men's Tennis Earns First Win of the Season at George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore.- Seattle U men's tennis earned their first win of the season, 5-2, Friday night against George Fox at the Multi-Use Facility in Newberg, Ore. The Redhawks dominated in the singles matches as they were close to sweeping, winning 5 of 6 against the Bruins. The win improves the Redhawks to 1-3 on the season.

NEWBERG, Ore.- Seattle U men's tennis earned its first win of the season, 5-2, Friday night against George Fox at the Multi-Use Facility in Newberg, Ore. The Redhawks dominated in the singles matches as they were close to sweeping, winning 5 of 6 against the Bruins. The win improves the Redhawks to 1-3 on the season.

"I am proud of our team for getting their first win of the season and I am happy we were able to start off the weekend on a good note," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander

Clinching the winning point was senior Emilio Monroy with a final score of 6-3, 6-3 against Camden Camacho. Freshman Mats Krause and Julian Worn earned strong identical victories of 6-3, 6-1 against Vahag Pashayan and Rox Rogers respectively. Senior Eli Ogilvy (6-2, 6-2) earned his first victory of the season against Luke Lemaitre while sophomore Lars Schmassmann (6-4, 7-5) earned a hard fought victory against Alle Banna. Senior Lucas Cerbelli (2-6, 6-3, 7-10) was close to finishing off the sweep against Will Leach as he pushed the match to three sets.

Seattle U started off the match slow by dropping the doubles point. Krause and Worn (6-3) earned their third straight doubles win of the season against Camacho and Hunter Fujimori. Junior Billy Givens-Jensen paired up with Schmassmann as they were close to winning the doubles point for the Redhawks, falling 6-7, 12-14 against Banna and Sam Watt. Rounding out the doubles matches for the Redhawks was the pairing of Ogilvy and Monroy (4-6) who put together a competitive set against Leach and Lemaitre.

The Redhawks will continue their weekend trip with a 10 a.m. matchup Saturday against Portland at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.
