SEATTLE – Seattle University women's soccer rolled by Northwest, 2-0, on Wednesday night. Mo Nagel and Sydney Carr scored in the non-conference game at Championship Field.
Coach Julie Woodward, overseeing her team in game action for the third time in five days, used Wednesday's match as an opportunity to showcase her depth. SU started five freshmen, including Lexi Davis in net. Another rookie, Alli Smith, took over in goal for the second half, as the Redhawks played 23 players.
The Redhawks (2-2-1) dominated first-half play, outshooting Northwest, 11-1, in the first 45 minutes. Davis booted a goal kick to midfield, where Sarah Creighton passed ahead to Rakel Leosdottir. Lesodottir put a terrific touch ahead to Nagel, who dashed down the left side and beat the Eagles' keeper on the right in the 29th minute.
In the second half, SU continued to pound the Eagles, working deep into the NU zone for much of the period. In the 72nd minute, Kelsey Crosby stole the ball from an Eagle defender and crossed right to Carr, who moved and finished with her left foot for a 2-0 lead.
SU held a 24-2 shot advantage on the evening.
The Redhawks welcome California Baptist for a WAC game on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Championship Field.
