NEWS AND NOTES
• Seattle U beat UTRGV, 1-0, on Feb. 22, as Natalie Dixon scored in the 81st minute to lift the Redhawks to their first WAC win of the year. Madison Waguespack made four saves, including a late penalty kick stop, to claim the shutout in goal.
• On Feb. 20, SU tied, 1-1 in double overtime, at UTRGV. Sydney Carr scored her first goal as a Redhawk in the WAC opener.
• Seattle U fell at Washington, 1-0, on Feb. 12. Madison Waguespack made a career-high nine saves in the match at frigid Husky Soccer Stadium.
• SU battled with No. 10 Washington State in the 2021 opener on Feb. 7, but the Cougars pulled out a 2-1 victory at Championship Field. Leahi Manthei scored early in the second half for the Redhawks.
• The match with WSU marked the Redhawks' first match in 449 days (Nov. 16, 2019 at Washington in NCAA Tournament).
• In accordance with state and local regulations and in the interest of public health, the season will begin without spectators in attendance at Championship Field. For the health and safety of participating student-athletes, staff and game personnel, access will be permitted only to participating teams and essential workers. Health and safety guidelines will be monitored on an ongoing basis to determine if limited capacity options become available at any point during the season.
• Seattle U was picked to win the WAC in the preseason coaches' poll, marking the seventh time in the last eight seasons that the Redhawks were voted preseason favorites. Sophomore Michele Adam was named WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Adam and senior Leahi Manthei were voted All-WAC Preseason.
• Coach Julie Woodward enters her 24th season at SU. She has won 307 games in her career.
• SU went 2-0-1 in three exhibition matches this preseason. It beat Seattle Pacific and Eastern Washington and tied Gonzaga. Sydney Carr led the Redhawks with three goals in the three games.
• The Redhawks won the 2019 WAC Tournament Championship, advancing to their fifth NCAA Tournament since 2013. SU is the lone Division I program to play in each of its last seven conference championship matches.
• Since 2013, Seattle U has appeared in five NCAA Tournaments, won five WAC Tournament titles, and claimed five WAC regular-season crowns.
• SU features three seniors, 10 juniors, 14 sophomores, and seven freshmen on this year's roster.
