EDINBURG, Texas – Seattle University women's soccer won, 1-0, at UTRGV on Monday morning. Natalie Dixon scored and Madison Waguespack made a late penalty kick save as the Redhawks claimed the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) road victory.

After a scoreless first half, the Redhawks ramped up the pressure in the opening minutes of the second period. SU created multiple opportunities in the open field and off set pieces. Dixon hit the post on a free kick in the 50th minute.

SU earned another free kick from the far left side in the 80th minute. Dixon lined up and curled in a terrific shot that hit the far post and crossed the goal line for a 1-0 lead. It marked the defender's first goal as a Redhawk.

UTRGV did not give up, though, and got a penalty kick chance in the 86th minute. Gina Steiner stepped up and shot to Waguespack's right, where Waguespack dove and stopped the shot to put SU in position to take its first win of 2021.

Waguespack made four saves in goal. The Redhawks outshot the Vaqueros, 14-9, in the match.

SU returns home for a non-conference game on Wednesday night as Northwest visits Championship Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
