EDINBURG, Texas – Seattle University women's soccer played to a 1-1 draw at UTRGV Saturday morning. Sydney Carr scored her first goal as a Redhawk in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) opener at the UTRGV Soccer and Track and Field Complex.

The Redhawks controlled action in the first half, peppering the Vaqueros with numerous attacks deep in SU territory. In the 16th minute, Gabe Jillings gained possession and passed ahead to Carr on the right side. The forward sprinted downfield and then unleashed a low liner that beat the UTRGV goalkeeper on the far side for a 1-0 advantage.

The hosts looked better in the second frame, as they took a turn hounding the SU backline. In the 61st minute, the Vaqueros scored to tie the match at 1. Madison Waguespack handled action well otherwise as UTRGV maintained possession for much of the early second-half action.

The Redhawks came back as the period continued, putting several solid chances together without finding the back of the net. They built momentum, but could not score in regulation.

In overtime, both sides looked for the winning goal, but the defenses were up to the task. SU earned some late opportunities, but the match ended in a tie.

The teams will meet again on Monday, with kickoff slated for 9 a.m. Pacific (11 a.m. Central).
