SEATTLE
 — A global pandemic could not stop the 12th Annual Meet the Redhawks event, which was hosted by Seattle University baseball on Sunday, February 14.

The interactive virtual evening was co-hosted by Seattle U alum Ian Lindsay, '04 and head coach Donny Harrel, and featured yearly staples like silent and live auction in addition videos from players. For the sixth consecutive year, Meet the Redhawks helped the team raise $100,000 in a single night.

During the evening's festivities, Seattle U President Fr. Stephen Sundborg, SJ was presented with the Most Valuable Person (MVP) Award for his work in reviving the baseball program and for his support of Seattle U Athletics. Former Redhawks and current Major League Baseball pitchers Eric Yardley, '13 and Tarik Skubal, '18 also made appearances during the evening.

"I am still in awe with the event and the support we have from our families, administration, alumni, and supporters," said Harrel. "I have never been a part of a virtual event and it made me a bit nervous, but everyone still came to support the student athletes and that was the best part of the night. I cannot thank those enough who helped us put on this event and the ability to honor Father Steve, who has been so important to our university and the athletic department was the cherry on top of the cake. We are so blessed to have the support that we do and thank you everyone for making it an unbelievable night!"

Funds raised through the event will be used to purchase the TrackMan Baseball system and other equipment for Bannerwood Park as well as to support the student athletes.

Seattle U baseball is also very appreciative to the event's presenting sponsors GEICO Local, Toyota of Bellevue and Lakeside Milam.

The Redhawks are scheduled to open the 2021 season with a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 21 in the Rose City when it faces Portland.
