EL PASO, Texas – Seattle University women's basketball put together a stellar effort and won, 76-69, against New Mexico State Saturday afternoon. Georgia Kehoe recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contest played at Eastwood High in El Paso, Texas.

"We were really locked in on both ends of the floor," said SU Coach Suzy Barcomb. "We knew we had to earn the split today. It was a great battle between the two teams. Georgia had another solid performance, but today we also got big games from Kenzi and Bree."

SU (10-8, 5-3 WAC) led for much of the day, but the Aggies rallied to pull even at 62 with 7:25 remaining in the fourth. The Redhawks worked well to close the game and come away with the weekend split. Kehoe followed her own miss with a layup for a two-point lead. After a defensive stop, Bree Calhoun found Peyton Howard for a bucket at the 6:15 mark, forcing a NMSU timeout.

The Aggies committed a turnover and that set up another Kehoe hoop inside. After a NM State three made it 68-65, McKenzi Williams drew a foul and sank the ensuing free throws with 3:52 left. Calhoun grabbed a rebound and went on to drive and score to stretch the lead to seven. Irena Korolenko came up with a steal and then Howard drove baseline and found Hailey Vice-Neat open in front of the SU bench. Vice-Neat sank a long two-pointer for a 74-65 margin with 1:48 to go, icing the game in the Redhawks' favor.

Kehoe led with 18 points and 10 boards to go with two blocks and two assists. Calhoun contributed 18 points, hitting three three-balls, along with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Williams hit 9-12 free throws on her way to 16 points. Vice-Neat came off the bench to add 10 points on her birthday.

Seattle U was terrific offensively in the first period, scoring 25 points to take control of the game. Calhoun split two foul shots and then went coast-to-coast for a layup. Williams began her parade to the free-throw line with two made shots at the 8:19 mark, giving SU a 5-2 lead. After an Aggie three, Chinwe Ezeonu scored in the lane. Later, Calhoun grabbed an offensive board and found Williams, who swished a trey for a 10-5 advantage. Vice-Neat entered the game and scored immediately on a post-up at the 6:01 mark.

Korolenko scored inside and Calhoun hit a triple for a 17-12 margin. NMSU scored next, but Kehoe made a jumper to regain the difference with 3:47 to go in the first. Vice-Neat then nailed two three-pointers in the closing minutes, giving SU a boost and a 25-20 lead after 10 minutes.

Kehoe, operating out of the high post for much of the game, scored twice while being fouled early in the second frame. She finished the three-point play the second time, making it 32-22 with 7:24 to go in the half. Baskets by Ezeonu, Calhoun, and Kehoe made it 39-26 at the 4:27 mark before NM State closed the gap. A late Williams lay-in and a Kehoe foul shot gave SU a 42-39 edge at halftime.

Calhoun sank another trey in the third and Kehoe scored on a putback, but the Aggies rallied to tie the game at 56 late in the period. A Williams free throw gave the Redhawks a 57-56 advantage going into the fourth. Another Kehoe layup and Calhoun's third three-ball of the day made it 62-58 in the final frame before the Aggies tied it again.

SU returns home for two WAC contests with UTRGV next weekend. The series opens on Friday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. at the Redhawk Center.
