SEATTLE – Seattle University women's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision at Washington on Friday evening. Madison Waguespack set a new career high with nine saves in net at snowy Husky Soccer Stadium.
"I continue to be happy with the depth of our team," said SU Coach Julie Woodward. "However, we did not play our best soccer today, which was disappointing after playing such a strong game last weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing the team's response as we head into our conference opener."
Waguespack patrolled the net and kept SU organized in the first half, making five saves to keep WU off the board. The Redhawk attack got better as the half continued, as the dynamic forward groups forced the Huskies back on their heels. SU put four shots towards goal and earned a corner kick later in the frame. Washington's free kick late in the half was turned away and the teams entered halftime scoreless.
In the second half, Seattle U was the aggressor to start, but UW held the Redhawks off the scoreboard. In the 64th minute, the Huskies struck, as a cross from the right side rolled through the box and then was deflected across the goal line for a 1-0 margin.
SU worked to put together chances as time rolled on, but the hosts answered each question and eventually came away with the one-goal match.
The Redhawks kick off WAC play against UTRGV on Thursday, Feb. 18. The match is slated for 4 p.m. Pacific.
