EL PASO, Texas – Seattle University women's basketball dropped a 64-49 contest to New Mexico State on Friday afternoon. Georgia Kehoe led the Redhawks with nine points and eight rebounds in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contest at Eastwood High in El Paso, Texas.

"Ice-cold shooting in the first half was our undoing," said SU Coach Suzy Barcomb. "We played a much better second half, but it wasn't enough. We will watch film and come back better tomorrow."

SU's offense went missing in the first half, but the defense did what it could to stay within range of the Aggies. Bree Calhoun scored the Redhawks' first points. Georgia Kehoe followed with a pair of free throws to make it 7-4 NMSU. McKenzi Williams sank a jumper and Chinwe Ezeonu converted two foul shots, but the Aggies closed with a bucket for a 15-8 advantage after a period.

New Mexico State scored the first 12 points of the second frame before Kehoe scored while being fouled at the 2:51 mark to get SU within 27-10. A Makenna Schoenhofer putback inched the Redhawks closer, but the Aggies entered the half with a 31-12 margin.

In search of a comeback, Kehoe scored early in the third quarter and Calhoun made a steal and went in for a layup to get within 35-17. After two Aggie free throws, Hailey Vice-Neat nailed a corner three and Williams scored in the lane to make it a 15-point difference with 4:45 left in the third. Peyton Howard followed with two made free throws and a layup as SU kept closing the gap. Calhoun stole and scored again and then Irena Korolenko hit a triple to put SU down 13 late in the frame. The Aggies answered with a difficult three in the final seconds, though, regaining a 47-31 lead.

SU (9-8, 4-3 WAC) could not get closer in the fourth, as NM State claimed the first game of the weekend series.

Kehoe led with nine points, eight boards, two blocks, and two steals. Calhoun put up nine points and six steals, while Williams added eight points. Ezeonu tallied five points and nine rebounds. As a team, the Redhawks held a 44-38 margin on the glass and forced 19 Aggie turnovers.

The teams match up again tomorrow. Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m. Pacific (1 p.m. Mountain) in El Paso.
