SEATTLE – Seattle University women's basketball beat Saint Martin's, 80-69, on Friday afternoon. Four Redhawks scored in double figures in the non-conference contest at the Redhawk Center.

SU led by two after three periods and then the visitors tied the game at 54 early in the fourth. The Redhawks put together a closing run to came away with a victory in their game of the new year.

The Saints scored first in the fourth, but Murphy finished a three-point play for a 57-54 difference. After an SMU hoop, Murphy nailed a straight-on three with 7:49 to play. Layups by Bree Calhoun and Georgia Kehoe put an exclamation point on a 7-0 spurt to take control of the contest.

SMU scored next, but Peyton Howard answered with a hoop. After a Saint trey, McKenzi Williams drove and scored for a 68-63 lead with 4:42 to go. A pair of Williams free throws expanded the margin and then Williams set up a Murphy triple to make it 73-63. A Calhoun lay-in gave SU a 12-point cushion with 2:10 showing on the clock.

Williams led with 19 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Calhoun filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, seven assists, six boards, and three steals. Kehoe recorded 15 points and six rebounds and Murphy put up 15 points and five boards.

It was a terrific start for the Redhawks, who scored the game's first 10 points. Calhoun set up a Kehoe layup and after Kehoe blocked a shot on one end, she assisted on a Calhoun bucket on the other. Layups by Williams and Calhoun made it 8-0 and forced an SMU timeout with 6:52 left. Williams scored again after the stoppage for a 10-0 advantage.

The visitors rallied after that, but a Murphy trey slowed the Saints. After an SMU three, Kehoe finished inside to make it 15-9 at the 4:03 mark. Kehoe scored again and then Williams scored, stole the ball, and scored again to regain a 10-point margin. The Saints hit another three to get within 21-14 after a period.

In the second quarter, a pair of second-chance buckets by Makenna Schoenhofer got SU going offensively. SMU eventually got within four before Murphy sank a wing three-ball. Two Kehoe layups stretched the lead to 32-21 at the 4:05 mark. Following a Saint score, Irena Korolenko swished a triple for a 35-24 difference. SMU scored twice to cap the half and entered the locker room within six at 35-29.

Chinwe Ezeonu and Kehoe scored early in the third frame as SU held a slim advantage. The visitors made a run and grabbed a 40-39 edge before a Williams hoop. SMU scored, but Williams was on the spot again with a tying basket midway through the period. Williams came up with a steal and then Calhoun scored on the other end. A Korolenko jumper made it a four-point game. SMU went on to regain a lead, but Calhoun created two baskets in the final minute of the third as SU went up, 54-52, after 30 minutes.
