SEATTLE — Seattle U women's swimming won five on Saturday but fell short, 161-100, in a dual meet against Washington State.
In spite of the outcome, the Redhawks recorded the highest score against the Cougars in the all-time series history and the fourth-highest total in program-history against a Pac-12 school.
"Overall I was really happy with our attitude and how performance," said Seattle U head coach Craig Nisgor. "After a tough week of practice I wasn't how they'd do, but the team responded well and as a result, we had some really nice swims and some good things happen for us today."
Sophomore Alexa Hoeper led the way for Seattle U, finishing the day with three podium finishes including first-placed victories in the 100 backstroke (1:00.69) and 200 backstroke (2:05.07).
Sophomore Danika Himes won the 200 breaststroke (2:24.99). A couple of freshmen also garnered the top spot as Cassie Koester paced the field in the 500 freestyle (5:17.23), while Emilia Culberson registered her first collegiate victory winning the 100 freestyle (54.48).
Seattle U began the day with the 200 medley relay, where Culberson (28.87), Himes (30.64), Isabella Guadiamos (27.24) and Maggie Robben (25.49) took second with a combined time of 1:52.24. They were followed by the Redhawk quartet of Allie Freeman (29.53), Emily Bakewell (36.92), Tessa Oliver (28.00) and Marissa Chan (27.07) who scored third-place points with a collective time of 2:01.52.
