CHENEY, Wash. – Seattle University women's basketball led the whole way and won, 77-65, at Eastern Washington Saturday afternoon. Georgia Kehoe scored a career-high 19 points on perfect shooting as SU hit all 16 of its free throw tries in the non-conference game at Reese Court.
"Georgia had a tremendous all-around game today," said SU Coach Suzy Barcomb. "She was solid on defense and she came through for us down the stretch. Having four players in double figures is incredibly important in terms of overall play for us."
The Redhawks were ready from the opening tip on Saturday, displaying its balanced attack and controlling the glass in the first half. Bree Calhoun drove and finished a layup while being fouled on SU's first possession. She sank the ensuing free throw for a 3-0 advantage.
A pair of Kehoe layups and a putback by Chinwe Ezeonu made it 9-2 with less than four minutes gone in the match. Courtney Murphy followed with a trey for a 12-2 margin. After the Eagles scored, Murphy swished another three. The hosts rallied, but another Murphy jumper briefly held off EWU. The Eagles tied the game at 17 late in the frame, but a Calhoun triple and a Kehoe lay-in gave the Redhawks a 22-19 lead after a period.
Irena Korolenko got going in the second quarter, as the freshman came off the bench and immediately made an impact. Calhoun found her open for a layup off an inbounds pass. Calhoun then scored and assisted on a McKenzi Williams trey. Korolenko followed with a three-ball of her own for a 32-26 margin at the 5:15 mark.
Williams scored to keep SU ahead and then Korolenko found room and nailed a corner three to give Seattle U a nine-point difference. An Ezeonu basket made it 39-31 with 2:20 to go in the half. EWU closed with a three to pull within 39-34 at the break.
In the first half, SU shot 55 percent from the field, including 6-10 from three-point range.
