MOSCOW, Idaho — Seattle U women's swimming opened the 2020-21 season, Friday evening with a dual-meet against Western Athletic Conference foe, Idaho. The Redhawks closed the first of four sessions trailing, 55-38, having won one of the five events.
"I'm happy with our first this early performance," said Redhawks head coach Craig Nisgor. "Although we were as not crisp as we'd like to be, with a turn here or a touch there, I still thought we had some really good swims which should set us up nicely for the rest of the weekend."
Sophomore Danika Himes registered the Redhawks' lone victory, notching a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:08.29). Senior Bryn Lasher meanwhile captured two podium finishes, placing second in the 100 butterfly (57.50) and third in the 50 freestyle (24.34).
Freshmen Cassie Koester and Maggie Robben each earned second-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle and 200 IM, respectively. The duo also wasted little time etching their names in the Seattle U annals, as Robben's time of 2:08:32 was good for ninth in school-history, while Koester clocked in at 10:34.54, placing her fifth all-time.
Senior Allison Plamondon posted a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle (24.09), while sophomore Alexa Hoeper claimed third in the 1000 freestyle (10:47.79). Seattle U opened the meet with the quartet of Culberson, Lasher, Robben and Plamondon earning second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.43).
The Redhawks will return to action on Saturday for a double dip with a morning session slated for 11 am and an evening session at 5:30 pm. All events will be available to view on Facebook Live.
