SEATTLE – Seattle University women's basketball product Carla Bieg will continue her playing career with the University of Essex in England. Bieg graduated from Seattle U in June after a four-year career with the Redhawks.
"I am grateful that I am able to keep playing basketball while I continue my studies at the same time," said Bieg. "I'm really excited to start this new season and experience with this team. It will probably be a different season this year due to the pandemic but I am grateful they are doing everything they can so we are allowed to play."
Bieg will study molecular medicine at the University of Essex and be a member of the Essex Rebels, who play in both the Women's British Basketball League (WBBL) and the British Universities and College Sports (BUCS). The WBBL season is scheduled to begin on Nov. 7, while the BUCS slate is due to begin at the start of 2021.
"Carla is pursuing two of her passions while in England," said SU Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. "She is thrilled about this opportunity and so am I. It's exciting to have so many of our graduates extending their athletic careers."
Bieg appeared in 72 games, making 11 starts, at Seattle U. The guard sank 41 three-pointers in her career. She joins teammates Joana Alves and Olivia Crawford as Redhawks continuing their playing careers this fall.
