SEATTLEKyle Sherick of Seattle U baseball was awarded the coveted Bannan Scholarship for the 2020-21 academic year, announced Monday by Michael Quinn, dean of the College of Science and Engineering.

"We are so happy for Kyle and his accomplishment," said head baseball coach Donny Harrel. "He has been a dedicated Redhawk since the moment he walked onto our campus. His dedication on and off the field defines what a true student-athlete is all about."

To be eligible for a Bannan scholarship, a student must be an undergraduate junior or senior with a full-time major in the College of Science and Engineering. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and have a demonstrated commitment to serving both the university and the greater community. The applicant must submit a biographical sketch, a personal statement describing volunteer service, and a faculty recommendation.

Sherick was one of 25 recipients of this year's scholarship and is the third Redhawk in last two years to be receive the honor. 

A native of Ravensdale, Wash., Sherick is majoring in Mechanical Engineering. The sophomore outfielder started 13 of 16 games during the shortened 2020 season, after hitting .310 in 2019 with 21 RBI and 35 hit runs.

This is Sherick's second academic-related award of the year after capture CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades last month.
