SEATTLE – Seattle University Athletics will implement a phased return to campus of Redhawk student-athletes beginning in July. The path to return to sport is based on the guidelines of Safe Start Washington King County and informed by medical personnel and campus leadership. Seattle U Athletics protocols prioritize student and staff safety, health and physical readiness.

Seattle U Athletics' phased return includes the following:

  • All student-athletes returning to campus will be required to follow comprehensive social distancing procedures and may require a period of self-quarantine.
  • All student-athletes will complete physicals and a COVID-19 PCR (swab) test.
  • PPE and sanitation standards will be required of all student-athletes, coaches and staff.
  • All student-athletes and staff will be required to abide by facility entry and exit standards, building access restrictions and traffic flow patterns.
  • July 6 return of local basketball student-athletes for controlled voluntary activities.
  • July 20 return of basketball for official summer practice and conditioning activities.
  • Early August return of women's soccer, men's soccer and volleyball for in-season practice and conditioning activities.
  • Cross Country to report in the latter part of August.
  • All remaining sports to report beginning the week of August 31.
  • Team travel to follow specified protocols to ensure social distancing.

As originally announced on May 27, Seattle University made the decision to move the start of the 2020 fall quarter forward two weeks to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 9 and end before Thanksgiving on Tuesday, Nov. 24. (The School of Law, which is on a semester system, will start as scheduled on August 24 and end on November 25.) Students residing on campus this fall will be invited to move in the week of August 31.

By moving up the start and conclusion of the fall term, Seattle U seeks to significantly reduce the number of students needing to travel back and forth in November and December and being exposed to potentially spreading infectious diseases like the flu and COVID-19.
