Men's Golf Trio Named All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. — Nathan Cogswell, Greg Gionfriddo and Jack Rahon of Seattle U men's golf have all been named First wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday.

NORMAN, Okla.Nathan Cogswell, Greg Gionfriddo and Jack Rahon of Seattle U men's golf have all been named First wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40% of the team's competitive rounds.

Cogswell wrapped up his sophomore season with a team-low 72.50 scoring average, three top-10 finishes over eight tournaments and one WAC Golfer of the Month honor. Gionfriddo, the team's lone senior, concluded his collegiate career with a 75.09 scoring average and a season-low round of four-under 67 at the Oregon State Invitational (Oct. 14-15). Rahon, a sophomore, lowered his scoring average to 72.77, recorded one top-4 finish and shot five eagles on the season. The Redhawks' shortened spring season was highlighted by a pair of third place team finishes.

All told for the GCAA, it was a record setting year for the All-America Scholars award as 614 student-athletes across Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA eanred the title of All-America Scholar, the most since the award's inception in 1982. Of the 614 honorees, 376 players were Division I selections, 99 in Division II, 108 in Division III, 18 from NAIA, and 12 from NJCAA. 2020 marks the first year in which sophomores are eligible for the award.
