SEATTLE — Prior to last weekend's graduation, Julia Gorman from Seattle U swimming was presented with the Mirbagheri-Yandl Award for Achievement in Mathematics. The award was presented during a virtual banquet held by Seattle University's College of Mathematics and Engineering.

The Mirbagheri-Yandl Award is presented to a graduating mathematics major whose achievement and enthusiasm for mathematics reflect the sprit of Ahmad Mirbagheri and Andre Yandl, two beloved Seattle University faculty members. The award was established in 2001.

"Getting this award is an exciting way for Julia to finish her undergraduate career here at Seattle University," said head swimming coach Craig Nisgor. "She has always worked hard to excel in everything she does in the classroom, community and pool. Her achievements have been well deserved and it is great to see her being recognized with this award."

With this latest announcement, Gorman added to an already impressive resume of scholastic achievements such as being a four-time WAC All-Academic honoree, earning the Bannan Scholarship last year, and an induction into the honor society of Jesuit colleges and universities, Alpha Sigma Nu, in 2018.

A native of Bend, Oregon, Gorman was a four-year member of the women's swim team, finishing her career ranked fourth-overall in program-history in the 100 freestyle (51.69) and fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:52.60), while helping six different relay teams place on the program's all-time performance list.
