SEATTLE – Seattle University men's basketball senior Mattia Da Campo was honored Friday, June 12 at the SU International Student Graduation Reception, earning the International Student of the Year award.

The Venice, Italy, native completed his four-year career with the Redhawks this past season, and earned his degree in Mathematics, with a minor in Economics, this month.

"It was difficult to choose from the many responses we received from faculty and staff," said Dale Watanabe, Director of the International Student Center, during the International Student Graduation Reception. "However, one particular nominee stood out, not just because of the number of nominations we received for him, but because of a special place this graduating senior finds himself in our campus community.

"As one nominator stated, 'He is the perfect student-athlete. He is a strong, hard-working, mathematics major who is always engaged in class.'"

For his mathematics senior synthesis project, Da Campo combined his loves of basketball and math by analyzing data from professional and SU basketball games.

Da Campo closed out his collegiate basketball career with his most impactful season, averaging 6.1 points and 4.4 rebounds in 24.2 minutes per game. He was a three-time Western Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection during his career.
